18th century typical Gozitan farmhouse, a one of a kind gem retaining all its original features after being expertly restored to meet today's demands. The property has large living and entertaining spaces downstairs and 3 bedrooms all with en-suite bath or shower on the first floor. Restoration was completed this year and consequently it is preferred not to cater for large parties. Furnishings have been kept simple and modern to highlight the numerous architectural features. State of the art kitchen with modern appliances, comfortable white leather Italian sofa overlooking the pool area, and a large south facing pool which gets the sun from early morning, make for a leisurely and enjoyable stay. Bedrooms and living area face north to make the most of the cool sea breezes that waft up the valley from the sea. On a clear day one can see as far as the Sicily coastline. Excellent location for country walks.
Lovers of historic buildings would love this property. What used to be the stables for cattle and mill room is now the main living area of the house, whereas the bedrooms still retain the old birthing lofts. From the exterior the house is like a fortress to protect its previous owners from the marauding pirates that roamed the seas. Staying in Ultima is reliving Gozo's past. Gozo is still relatively unspoilt by mass tourism and at dawn-break the farmers still get up to work on the tiny fields that surround the house. Spring and Autumn the fields are mostly given to growing market flowers and in summer large red sweet tomatoes can be seen ripening on the bushes. Wild flowers abound all year round except perhaps during the very dry months of July and August.
Ultima farmhouse is located on the outskirts of the villages of Ghasri and Gharb, within the hamlet of Ghammar, the smallest village on the Maltese islands. A stone's throw from the miraculous Shrine the Basilica of Ta Pinu, and a 30/40 minute walk to the panoramic hilltop with breathtaking views and the Ta Jordan lighthouse. San Dimitri's chapel and valley is another recommended walk. Victoria Rabat the capital of Gozo is about 40 minutes walk.
Most commercial activity on this tiny island is located in Victoria Rabat the capital of Gozo, a bus stop conveniently just outside the house cuts the journey to a 10 minute ride. Ghasri is a 15 mins walk and the closest food market 10 mins with the beautiful village of Gharb 20 mins away. Buses from Victoria radiate to every corner of the island and car hire on Gozo is still relatively cheap.
